i'm in charge of celebrations

when i was on the bus, one of my most significant learnings was learning to celebrate. i really had forgotten to celebrate everyday. i think that just being on a circle helps me celebrate, seeing the actual process of life and being part of a healthy and loving community. i love that about experiential education: prep, experience, process and reflection.

we would start the day with atunement, which acknowledged the fact that this was the first time of the day our learning community was together and therefore for me it was a celebration of us being a community every single day of school.

after being on the bus, i really really want to keep the spirit of celebrations and celebrating at least one thing everyday and i found this book called: i'm in charge of celebrations by byrd baylor, which has helped me remember that i can create as many celebrations as i want

this is a little passage from the kids book by byrd taylor

sometimes people ask me,
"aren't you lonely
out there
with just desert
around you?

i guess they mean
the deep ravines
and the hawk nests
in the cliffs
and the coyote trails
that wind accross the hills

lonely

i can't help
laughing
when they ask me
that.

i always look at them...
surprised.

And i say
how could i be lonely?
i'm the one
in charge of celebrations.

sometimes
they don't believe me,
but it's true.
i am.

i put
myself
in charge.
i choose
my own.

last year
i gave myself
one hundred and eight
celebrations
besides the ones
that they close school for.

i cannot get by
with only a few.

friend, i'll tell you
how it works.

i keep a notebook
and i write the date
and then i write about
the celebration.

i'm very choosy
over
what goes in
that book.

it has to be something
i plan to remember
for the rest of my life.

you can tell
what's worth
a celebration
because your heart will
POUND
and you'll feel
like you're standing
on top of a mountain
and you'll
catch your breath
like you were
breathing
some new kind of air."

pd: i want to get a video camera to make movies and also to record reading amazing kids books, for all those out there that still love to go to bed with an inspiring story. i love stories and want to become a story teller. hopefully, i can start making and posting movies soon, that would make me very happy. i also want to read and maybe get? all byrd baylor books, they are amazing.
